Fall Craft Ideas for Kids
Looking for a few fun, easy fall crafts for kids to try this year? Look no further.
Supplies Needed:
1 round lollipop
2 goggly eyes
2 black pipe cleaners
Hot glue
Directions:
Take 2 pipe cleaners & cut them in half
Line up the four pipe cleaner pieces beside each other and center them as best you can. It’s ok if the lengths aren’t evenly perfect – you can bend them afterwards to make up for it.
Place the lollipop on top of the pipe cleaners, about 1/3 of the way in from one side.
Wrap the long side along the lollipop and loop it around
Bend the legs into little “L’s”. They don’t have to be perfect, just do your best to shape them into little legs. Bend the pipe cleaners slightly sideways so you can equal spacing between all the legs.
Put a small dab of hot glue on the back side of the googly eyes
Place the eyes towards the front of the pipe cleaner spider’s body. You want the eyes 1/3 of the way over the body – not in the middle, not the edge, just slightly back
Ingredients:
1 cup flour
1 cup water
1/4 cup of salt (a little more if you use kosher)
1 tablespoon coconut oil*
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice (or a mix of cinnamon/nutmeg/cloves)
Optional: food coloring or natural food based dyes (such as beet juice and turmeric)
Directions:
* Combine all ingredients (except coloring) in a large pot.
* Stir over medium heat until a big ball forms. (It should be smooth and no longer sticky.)
* Remove from pot and allow to cool until the dough can be worked by hand.
* Divide the dough into however many different colors you want.
* Work the colors into the dough by adding a few drops at a time and kneading. (We used food coloring for red, yellow, and orange and left one brown. Similar colors could be achieved with natural juices: beet, carrot, turmeric.)
Paper Bag Scarecrow
Supplies Needed:
Brown paper lunch bag
Newspaper
Yellow, brown, orange, black, blue, and red construction paper
2 googly eyes
Glue
Scissors
Tape
Directions:
* Use the newspaper to stuff your brown paper lunch bag. Be careful not to stuff it too full! Tape the top of the bag closed.
* Print out our template above. Cut out the shapes and trace them on construction paper. The smile is black, the hat is brown, the hat ribbon and bow are blue, the nose is orange, and the leaf is red. Cut out all of the pieces.
* Cut a few one inch wide strips of yellow construction paper.
* Glue the bow onto the bag towards the bottom. Glue the tiny yellow square in the middle of the bow.
* Glue the smile on above the bow. Then glue on the googly eyes so they are at the same height as the top of the smile. Then glue the nose in the middle.
* Cut the yellow construction paper strips to various lengths and glue along the top of the bag as hair.
* To make the hat, glue the blue strip to the tall rounded portion of the hat. Then glue the brim of the hat on so that it leaves a bit of the blue strip exposed, but not all of it exposed. Glue the red leaf on the side of the hat. Glue that hat onto your scarecrow.
